Stupid idiot
Yes that would be me. Sadly I left my wallet at home this morning but didn't realise until I'd already got to the canteen with a brew. With a large queue of folks behind me and you know you can always tell what people think in a situation like that. I know because I think it myself. Suffice to say that five quid lighter I returned to work having gotten a taxi to go get said wallet, to get said brew = late for work. Stupid idiot.
On a better note you'll notice that my system is now Gravatar enabled. I'm sort of down with the idea but I also recognise that perhaps it's a little intrusive and sometimes takes the page to load a little longer because of having to go and get the images from the Gravatar server, we'll see how it pans out. If I see a real hit in the site loading then I'll be ditching them.
I've also been working on a proper anti-spam plug-in for the system. At the moment it puts everything in to a queue if you're not logged in (which reminds me I'll get a login box sorted out and a sign-up form over the w/e). Which is fine but requires me to manually "ok" comments to go live, which I'd rather not - when a machine can do it I'll let it. So that'll be up soon complete with a nice counter for "spam eaten".
Back to work...

Could have been worse, you could have spilled your coffee . . . . . With the Gravatars, can you not cache them on your box? Then have a nightly job that clears the cache and get's any stored Gravatars and checks for the most recent?
I kind of got all this info from a WP Plugin.

I did actually think about that. However I'd prefer not to cache things... might look in to it though if the site slows down because of them.
How's the new site coming on? ![]()

Slowly!! WP has gone from easy to a pain in the behind. There's something to be said writing your own system!

I think on the whole Gravatars are pretty stable and reliable. They dont affect things too much, I think?

yes they're ok but my concern is sometimes they don't load quick enough for my liking. Skeedy's idea of caching them isn't a bad one so I'm going to look in to that over the weekend!
I also need to add a proper login box and sign up which Kev from Ratatak quite rightly pointed out to me heh

I really need to learn how to create my own blog. I'm really looking forward to your tutorials - I'll definitely be trying it myself.
I quite like gravatars. It adds a bit more personal touch to comments.

Skeddy, sort of cheapish but still a fiver I didn't wanna have to shell out heh.
I got your email fella (thanks for that) I'll reply shortly.
Narelle, the articles are coming soon - I just have to make an addition to the the system itself first!
